POEM

One of several poems I have written.

FROM MY WINDOW

From my window I could hear the screams in the ice-cold dark.
From my window I heard the sirens wailing all night long.
From my window I could see the flashing lights, on the other side of the building site,

and it felt good, to be safe, in my room.

From my window there was a rattle and clash of cans.
From my window I heard the hissing snarls of the fighting tom cats.
From my window I saw the flying the shoe, from the woman down below as she bellowed,

“Put that in your pipe and smoke it.”

From my window I could see the dancing shadows.
From my window I felt the thump of the incessant, pounding bass.
From my window I heard the man next door, screaming out again to tell them,

to 'turn the damn thing down'.

Reflections from my room, as they slowly pass by, day by day.
Reflections on my life, go zooming by so fast, I can’t breath.
If I had a chance, to do it all again,

I would surely try to change

the way that became, my destiny.

From my window I heard the gun shots ring out.
From my window I saw the flickering flash of light.
From my window I heard TV’s all around, on twenty different channels, and all of them

the lonely people’s only friend.

From my window I saw the man on the ledge across the way.
From my window he appeared to be just standing there.
From my window something caught my eye, two people in a room, hugging, kissing...

When I returned to the ledge, he was gone.
